Plains Coreopsis
Coreopsis tinctoria
Showy annual growing 2-3' tall with abundant yellow blooms painted reddish-maroon towards the center. Native to the southern US, this plant has spread throughout North America as it readily reseeds. Great for cut flowers, but leave a few for reseeding!
Also known as: Golden Tickseed, Goldenwave, Calliopsis.
Seeds per pack: 325
We have included over 300 hundred seeds so you can get plenty of plants! Our germination rate for this lot is 51%. This is higher than some state's requirements for Coreopsis lanceolata (40%), and a bit lower than some state's requirements for Coreopsis bicolor, C. drummondi, and C. elegans (65%).
Planting / harvesting notes
Sow seeds in flats lightly covered by soil as these seeds need some light to germinate. Alternatively, sow directly in the garden and thin to 18" apart. Plant in full or partial sun. This species is an annual in most of North America, but will likely self-sow in subsequent years.
Seed keeping notes
To harvest the seeds, cut the dried, browned seedheads into a paper bag. Dislodge the seeds by breaking apart the seedheads. Use a strainer to sift out the larger chaff. Use your breath, wind, or fans to winnow off lighter weight chaff.
