Balloon Vine
Cardiospermum halicacabum
Balloon Flower or Love-in-a-Puff in North America is grown as an annual ornamental vine with attractive foliage, tiny white flowers, showy pods that resemble paper lanterns. The dark blue seeds within the pods each bear a tiny white heart. They grow best in full sun in rich garden soil and grow on a trellis or stakes up to 8’. Here in the northeast, the plant can self-sow. This plant is widely distributed through Asia, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, where people use the plant for myriad Medicinal properties.
