The Kitchen Garden at Bartram's Garden

Bartram’s Garden is a National Historic Landmark on the western bank of the Schuylkill River in Southwest Philadelphia. The Kitchen Garden, just east of the historic house, emphasizes crops with documented Bartram history –not at all typical but reflective of the Bartram family’s passion for experimenting with new or foreign plants. This 18th century garden provides all sorts of useful plants: mainly food crops to provide nutrition to the land’s occupants but also herbal medicines for family members and for livestock, cosmetics, fabric dyes, and other household products.
